Director Maniratnam who has been in news for his last release Kadal, which did not do as expected at the box office and the distributors are asking for money is now said to be reviving his old dusted project.
Mani who was supposed to do a film Lajjo with Bollywood’s perfectionist Aamir Khan is said to be now planning to do the same and is in talks with the actor. We hear that he recently held a meeting in Bollywood. Reports also suggest that he would be teaming up with Bollywood script writer Rensil D’Silva.
A source from the industry informs media, “When it was written, Lajjo was a musical love story which is set in pre-Independence India. Mani had started work on the film a few years ago. He had, at that point, teamed up with Anurag Kashyap to shape up the script. The film is based on the works of the famed Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai. But it was stalled due to various reasons, including the issue with story rights. But now, it looks like things may have fallen into place. Mani recently flew down to Mumbai to discuss this project.”
We just hope that the script prospects in to a beautiful Maniratnam film. With reports that Aamir is likely to be on board for the first time teaming with Mani, there is bound to be expectations.
